Throughout this blog, there will no doubt, be references to my family. My family is small, but they are the core of my life. Being 2118.17 miles away from home, (thank you, Mapquest, for that amazingly precise calculation) I am bound to miss a few things about home from time to time.
Someone once told me that when you hear something that makes you think of family, it is just a fun way of them saying hello.
Today was full of hellos from my family, let me tell you! My iPod alarm clock woke me with one of my dad's old radio shows. I miss my dad everyday, and I wish so badly that he could know where I am. He would be excited for me. Anyway, so my day was started with that.
As I was getting ready for work, one of my brother's sermon's shuffled in to play on the iPod. I have all of my favorite sermons that my brother has given on my iPod. Nerdy? Maybe. Proud sister? Most assuredly. His sermons really are that good, though! ;)
Then, towards the end of my day, I heard someone in the office mention the words Presbyterian and John Knox. I could not really begin to even tell you what he was discussing, but my ears perked up a little. I am a Presbyterian, and my brother named his (precious) black lab, Knox...After John Knox. I tell you, it seemed like so many things reminded me of family today. I even got a text message from my pastor back home. That made me smile. Plus, he is reading my blog, which is double cool. It seemed that at any moment, Kevin Bacon was going to pop up from around a corner some place. Supposedly he IS six degrees away from everyone/thing, right?
Another connection to family via something someone said? I had asked Katie one afternoon what type of church she attended. She informs me that it is a Four Square church. Well, I might not know a lot about it, but I do remember eight years ago or so, having a conversation with my mom, and she told me that she went to a four square church when growing up in Illinois. See? Kevin Bacon is just around the next corner, he has to be.
Funny thing.
About five weeks or so before I came out to JAF, my supervisor, Katie, had asked how I was able to raise so much money in a short amount of time. I told her that God was good, I had great friends, I wrote lots and lots of letter, AND I started a blog to chronicle my journey, and hopefully generate support that was, as well. She responded with, "Oh, that's great! Do you mind sharing it with me? I would love to see it." So, I passed it along. She THEN wanted to pass it along to the rest of JAF so that they could all be praying for me. Extra prayers? No complaints there. By all means, pass it along...WELL....APPARENTLY, good news travels fast. :) Apparently every staff member in the Sheraton has read it, because Both Bedford and I get greeted with energetic and friendly smiles every morning. Having so many readers puts on the pressure to NOT have a sucky blog. ;-)
On a closing note, the cover photo on this blog is a Google image. However, that is pretty much the exact view out of the office window. :) New fundraising tactic: mention Google in my blog as much as possible/use their images and PROMOTE them, and maybe...just maybe, they will be my next sponsor.
Hey, a girl can dream.
yes, my google skills are epic.
