Healing. This is one of the lessons in the "Beyond Suffering" book.
It is a great lesson, and it truly stirred some strong feelings within me, and here is why:
Let me preface this by saying that I believe in miracles. I am a miracle. I believe in the power of prayer. I also believe that God doesn't always answer our prayers the way that we would prefer. He allows things because God sees the whole picture. He sees what we do, and who we encounter and influence in our every day lives.
I was born with cerebral palsy around 27 weeks gestation. The deck was stacked against me, but God saw to it that I survived a premature birth. He has a purpose for my life. God saw to it that I had the best parents a girl could ever ask for. My mother, especially, as explained in numerous posts, has been a driving force behind my successes and my Independence. She was the enemy when she had to be, she was the cheerleader when I needed one, and she has always been the best friend. She, as well as the rest of my family, has been accepting of me just the way I am, with all I have to offer.
There have been others who have dragged me to healing services galore. Truth be known? I cannot stand those things. I am skeptical, sure. I believe that God heals people, sure. But, the thing is, when people pray for PHYSICAL healing for me, it is like they are saying, "God made a mistake with you, and you need to be fixed."
God doesn't make mistakes.
I have also been told that God is not healing me because of lack of faith, or unconfessed sin, not praying enough, etc.
We all have unconfessed sin in our lives, ladies and gentlemen. That is why we have Jesus. Otherwise we would be playing bumper chairs.
There is a clip from the movie, Elf...Will Ferrel's all excited that Santa is coming, and he spazzes out saying, "SANTA?! I KNOW HIM!
That is how I feel when people tell me that my faith isn't strong enough, or that I don't pray enough.
I know Jesus. I know Him.
Jesus knows me.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Nothing on me needs 'fixing." :-)
I have a purpose, as does everyone else.
Life is beautiful, gang.
Woot!!! Very well said. You're awesome.
